An aggregated list of changes in Voxelizer Experimental since Voxelizer 2.

New CNC milling workflow

Files support

  • STEP engineering file format is now supported
  • Planes and edges of the model may now be selected to define milling operations
  • Available functionalities adapt based on the loaded file format:
    • All functionalities are available for STEP files
    • 3d operations are available for regular mesh files (STL etc.)
    • 2d operations are available for flat vector files (DXF etc.)
  • Milling projects may now be saved as Voxelizer projects

New generation engine

  • The CNC milling workflow has been reworked with professional users in mind
  • The generation engine now outputs much more precise instructions as it uses the input directly, without an intermediate voxel step
  • Path generation algorithms have undergone many optimizations
  • It’s now possible to change tools within one file/process
  • It’s now possible to define a local coordinate system

Presets and configuration

  • A new library of milling tools and materials is now available
  • Greater configurability of the milling parameters
  • Errors in entered parameters are automatically detected and communicated to the user
  • Parameters are now explained with graphical tooltips

Preview and simulation

  • A new view of the scene, including a CNC table preview
  • An interactive simulation-based preview of the milling effect
  • Preview of tool paths
  • Automatic detection of tool/material collision

Multiprinter support

Voxelizer now supports a variety of printers available on the market. You can create new custom machine profiles and share them with the community!

New preset system

The preset system has been reworked and improved. New highly tested library of presets for multiple materials is now available. All presets added by the user are stored on the Voxelizer account, so you can use your presets on different devices.

Quick settings

A new easy way to edit settings has been introduced. The quick settings feature allows for rapidly adjusting print settings without modifying presets,

Significant improvements for multi-color printing

  • Computation of achievable color mixes, depending on the filament colors
  • Real-time texture mapping preview
  • Robust image mapping algorithms
  • Scaling and rotating of external texture
  • Showing actual color mixes in gcode preview
  • New artifact material available: if a model has this material applied to it, it will be used for transitioning from one color to another. If no transition is needed, it will be printed with the last used material
  • New artifact type Purge: specify a point on the table where the extruder will purge the filament before moving to the color, saving time in artifact extrusion. To prevent the collision without remains of filament with the model a shield is built around the model, that can be disabled from the parameter “Purge artifact shield”

Other changes

  • New bottom layer structures (brim, skirt, none)
  • It’s now possible to apply a filter based on a selection
  • Add “send to Octoprint” functionality here
  • It’s now possible to open .zip files containing 3D model files (also with textures)
  • It’s now possible to merge aligned objects into one in the scene editor
  • Last file open location on Windows is now remembered per-extension
  • Undo/Redo functionality is now available in Scene Editor
  • Very basic .3mf format import support
